Blue Flame Ritual

Blue Flame Ritual

The Super Full Moon is tomorrow, so I thought I’d share one of my top three favorite rituals to perform on any Full Moon and hope you will find as much beauty and benefit as I do with the flow.

Scientifically, Blue flames are considered to be “complete combustion”
The perfect balance between oxygen and fuel.
They also transfer more energy and are considered the safest flame because the blue color indicates a clean burn, ie no poisonous carbon monoxide

The science of the blue flame translates beautifully to magic and spirituality.

•perfect protection
•complete release
•cleansing

Then there is the color itself. Blue for me imparts feelings of peace, spirituality, truth, serenity.

Generally I like to use the three day window of the Full Moon, day before, of and day after to work with rituals for gratitude and release. For me, those energies are heightened during the Full moon phase.

Supply list is below:

•Epsom Salts
•Isopropyl Alcohol
•Fireproof container
•Bay leaves or strips of paper
•Writing instrument
•Matches or lighter
•Tongs or tweezers
• Large Tray

Place the fireproof container on a tray so you can move it quickly if necessary since it gets quite hot once the flame is ignited.

Place epsom salts in the bottom of the container and then barely cover the salt with rubbing alcohol. Note any alcohol used must be at least 70% or you won’t get the clean blue burn. The metal in Epsom salts is what creates the blue color.

Next write your message, intention, wish, gratitude notes on a bay leaf or strip of paper.

Meditate on these intentions for as long as you’d like. Then hold the bay leaf or piece of paper with tongs or tweezers, light it and drop it into the container.

Be prepared to be dazzled!

The blue flame will continue to dance for some time before self extinguishing.

Drop me a note in the comments if you try it and let me know your thoughts 💙

Beltane Shower Tea

It all started with an afternoon downpour on Beltane. Rain on Beltane is imbued with deep magic. So I grabbed a glass bowl and ran outside to let it gather the waters

While the rain was collecting, I brewed some Tulsi Rose tea, perfect energy and scent for the season.

After an hour, I brought the rainwater inside and added crystals to the bottom of the bowl, placed some pink flowers in a circle and swirled Beltane essential oil in with my fingers. Finally, I poured the Tulsi tea infusion into the bath.

I also poured a cup of the brew for me to sip before heading to my shower with the bowl to do a bedtime cleansing and blessing ritual

It was a lovely way to close the sabbat and my dreams were equally as beautiful

Bright blessings for this next season in the turn of the wheel.

Magnolia Magic

The magnolia is one of four primary trees on the property of my home.

There are also two Brother Pines, a Father Oak, the 11 Sisters a.k.a. Tulip Poplars and then Mother Magnolia.

I turn to the magnolia when I am in need of comfort and mothering.

Her correspondences are dignity, spirituality, peace and endurance and she shares these energies with me freely.

This morning I went out into the yard and found a fallen leaf. The leaves naturally curl into a boat shape and are a perfect vessel for sending messages. I’ve been in a heightened state of anxiety for over two years now but this morning felt even more so.

So I fixed myself a cup of herbal tea. This divine feminine blend from my friend Val’s shop is especially comforting and nourishing. As I sipped, I wrote my concern on the leaf and then sprinkled the used herbs onto the leaf

I took the petition boat and headed out to the back of our property where a spring creek runs and along the way I found tulip poplar blooms that had dropped from the sisters. I picked one up and placed it in the boat as an additional offering and then walked to the waters edge.

I offered the boat to the spirit of the creek and said a prayer to Brigid asking that my anxiety be taken away and replaced with peace.

Then I gently pitched it into the water. I considered it a good omen that it did not capsize but landed upright and started to float away.

And as I watched it drift downstream, I felt just a little bit more at ease.

I think naming and releasing fears is such a vital part of overcoming them.

May you have peace today and every day.

Herb Divination

Lemon Balm

Every year a different perennial herb takes off faster than the others. And they seem to be an indicator of the year to come.

This year it’s the season of the Lemon Balm

And while it is used for rituals to foster Success, happiness, memory and love, this herb holds a resonance of deep healing for me personally.

Have you ever used herb growth as a divination method?
How do you like to use lemon balm?

I’d love to hear in the comments below.

Morning Cleanse

Morning Smoke Cleanse

How perfectly aligned were these messages from Thursday?

Both the Fool from the #starseekerstarot and the Juniper smoke card from #sacredhagsoracle from @wolfwomanwitch were completely aligned in their messages of beginning anew.

And the act of taking a smoke cleanse bath in the morning was absolutely magickal. Starting my day off fresh and empowered.

Poetry and Play

A little peak at my current daily mediation, poetry and play practice

I write each word from my curated monthly list on origami squares at the beginning of the month.

and then pick a fold that is reflective of the season. For me, April means tulips. 🌷

After I pull the prompt and some Oracle cards, I compose a poem. And then usually create an image in Canva and share it to my author account @rachel.l.carlyle

I record the poem in my perpetual seasonal journal and then create the origami offering and place it on my ancestor altar.

In the evening the offerings go into a big crystal bowl for the year.

Not quite sure what I’ll do with them in a years time. I’m sure Spirit will inform ❤️

Spring Seasoning

Today marks the Spring Equinox, the balance of light and dark as we turn toward the warmth of a new season.

I wanted to do something easy to mark the shift. So I turned to my tried and true salt, pepper and a tea light candle are the ingredients for this simple ritual.

I sprinkled the salt and pepper evenly over each half of the candle to represent the balance of day and night. It will be placed on my cooktop and lit as I start dinner preparations with a prayer for balance in my life and that of my family in the coming season.

I also poured salt and pepper evenly in another dish and blended with my finger, again with a prayer of gratitude. It was then added to the soup, salad and bread I prepared for dinner to celebrate the equinox.

Ostara Offerings

Ostara Offerings

I have so many plans for these beauties.

The first free range farm eggs of the season from our community farmers market 🥚

First up, a gorgeous torta with fresh rainbow chard and applewood smoked Gouda (also from the market)

The eggs will have the tops trimmed off very carefully so they can be a rinsed, air dried and then filled with soy wax chips for candles

Some will be on my altar. Some on our dining table for the season.
Maybe a few as gifts.

Welcome Spring 💚🦋🌸

Receive and Release

Receive and Release

This morning at meditation, I pulled the two cards, The Fool and the Vision Quest. The perfect balance representations of my release and receive ritual I had had planned on sharing today . I love spirit affirmations 💜

I was going to share another ritual mantra haiku that I have used in the past whenever I bring a new item into my home.

But based off the messages I received this morning, a new one was born.

The ritual of receive and release is so important for me to balance the flow of my space. Releasing an item in return, is an act of gratitude.

And no offering is too small.

The complete ritual will be in my upcoming publication Winter of 2022.

Ritual Soaks

Don’t have a traditional bath tub?
Can’t get into one because of mobility issues?

No problem. Foot baths are the answer.

And one I use frequently when I don’t have the time or energy to indulge in a long ritual bath.

Find a container large enough for a foot bath and prepare a tonic with herbs, flowers, salts, bath bombs, ritual oils etc, setting your intention to add to the hot water.

I like to let it infuse in a separate bowl while I presoak in my foot bath.
Dressing a chine candle or birthday and setting it in the middle of the infusion adds all kinds of energy.
Plus it’s very satisfying to watch that little fizzle and poof as the flame is consumed by the water.

Add the infusion when you are ready
