I love the three card spread options in the guidebook with this deck.
I tweaked the “today” spread to read for the week.
This week’s theme PRIMAL Acceptance “There is no other way around but through” If that isn’t fitting for the start of the work week, I don’t know what is. And the crush of trying to wrap up everything before along weekend to boot!
This week’s blessing MAYPOLE Celebration “Choose be to be happy right now” With no major events in the horizon to celebrate in a season full of graduations and weddings this is a timely reminder for me to live my mantra, my truth. I choose to keep the focus of my practice on everyday magic. The mundane made memorable.
This week’s obstacle RIBBONS Awareness My tidy little Virgo rising mind immediately wanted to plait all those twining ribbons into a neat braid😂 This awareness of my comfort level
Wednesday is the birthday of my paternal grandfather Born in 1909, I have no memory of him as he died of cancer when my father was in high school.
To say he had a problematic life would be an understatement from the bits and pieces I have been able to pull from my father and other family members.
He was a brilliant man with two engineering degrees. But addictions shortened his life and were the source of incredible hardship and trauma for his family.
And because of this, I have been hesitant to reach out and include him in my ancestral practice. But.
He has been on my mind so much lately and little synchronicities have been popping up leading me to explore the possibility of checking in with him (and my well ancestors) to see if it is in everyone’s best interests to explore the path of healing for this line. Because similar problems continue to manifest in subsequent generations.
I put together a three card spread to test the waters, so to speak.
The response pulls are below.
I had already asked my mother to send me a photo of him and that if nothing else I was planning on going to a church and lighting a candle for him.
I’d say the messages from the cards concur with my plans. 🕯
His current state • 8 of Wands He has messages. And a lot of them. I’m also sensing an urgency in the request(s).
Should I engage • Princess of Cups. This is a clear yes. The young girl even looks like me in my youth. I’m drawn to the image of the turtle in the cup as an offering. Putting a pin in this to explore further.
How to help• 4 of Wands The imagery is of a church. I don’t think it could be any clearer that I was on track with my original initial plan.
I will be headed to a local cathedral tomorrow and will see what other messages come through.
Today I’m sharing my favorite daily spread that I created several years ago and use throughout the season of Imbolc.
Brigid is associated with thresholds. Legend says that she was born on the threshold as the sun rose. And it is customary in Ireland to conduct threshold rites welcoming her into your home on the eve of Imbolc.
I shuffle my cards in the morning as I participate in an active mediation:
I am walking down a corridor, towards a new day. At the end of the corridor, I can see a door with light shining through a key hole. As I walk towards this new day, I consider, What will it bring? Pull the top card for the DOOR
I stand at the door and reach my hand into my pocket and find a key. As I place the key into the lock and turn the handle, I mediate on what lesson is needed for the day Pull a card from the middle of the deck for the KEY
Pushing the door open, I pause at the threshold, before stepping over What lesson will I learn from this day? Pull the bottom card for the THRESHOLD
Turn them all over and read your story for the day.
As you light your third candle mediate on your boundaries. And think of Thurisaz as the great defender of those boundaries. The one who stands up to the imagined or teal bully on the playground, takes up their proverbial hammer of choice and clears the negative space.
This rune is the advocate for defining, setting and protecting your personal boundaries. Calling in support and allies for protection and confidence.
I hope these prompts help you manifest the energy of this rune.
Inspired by my deeper dive into ancestral work this past month, I was thrilled to learn about the history of Sunwait, a mindful candle and rune practice for the 6 weeks preceding the Winter Solstice.
A large part of my DNA is steeped in Germanic roots and I’m not going to sugar coat it. Those folks of my recent memory were not always the nicest people. I had balked at exploring those connections until recently. And specifically the appearance of this practice on my spiritual radar felt like a well timed sign.
I’ll be sharing a tarot spread each week based on the six stanzas of the poem that accompany each candle and rune.
The cards I pulled for this first week provided a roadmap to successfully navigate the rest of 2021
I hope it will help me find support and reflection while waiting for the return of longer days.
