Low Key Litha

I donโ€™t know what the weather is like where you are, but in the USA we are experiencing record breaking heat throughout most of the country.

And personally, I have zero interest in doing any of the traditional activities that involve extended time outdoors like bonfires, hiking, gardening. And forget about baking!

Iโ€™ve compiled a list of my favorite low key, extremely simple activities to fan your Litha Passions without inviting heat stroke.
I plan on using some of them on the Solstice and all summer long.

FOOD

โ˜€๏ธSun tea

๐ŸŒฟ Infused herbal and or fruit waters

๐Ÿฅค Summer Fruit Lassis

๐ŸงŠ Herbal and or floral ice cubes for your beverages

๐Ÿ“ Frozen yogurt and berry bark

๐Ÿ‡ Grapes dipped in yogurt and frozen, or just plain. Mini portable popsicles!

ACTIVITIES

๐ŸŒฌCurling ribbons in Litha colors tied to the cage of an oscillating fan

๐ŸŒน Herbal or Floral infused water in a misting bottle kept nearby in a wine chiller.

๐Ÿชด Bouquet of fresh fire element herbs as a centerpiece that you use all day in meals.
Ideas? Basil in a caprese salad. Mint and melon balls. Rosemary foccia pizza.

๐Ÿ‘‘ Flower crown wreath
Red Carnations are associated with the Sun, cheap, easy to come by and make a sturdy crown base if you want to add extras.

๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Singing Bowl Mediations
Find them on Spotify, YouTube or Insight Timer.
Bonus points for solar chakra frequencies.

๐Ÿšฟ Chamomile Shower Tea. Cause itโ€™s too darn hot for a bath! All you need is two chamomile tea bags and a votive candle. Brew a weak pot and cool for a shower tea. Open the other and sprinkle some on the votive candle to light in your shower. I like to set mine in the soap dish

๐Ÿ“• Spooky cozy reads
Hot tip for a chill read
Download one of the Tradd Street mystery series from your local Library via Libby. The protagonist is a Charleston real estate agent who talks to dead people who favor making their presence know with icy temp drops.

Blue Flame Ritual

Blue Flame Ritual

The Super Full Moon is tomorrow, so I thought Iโ€™d share one of my top three favorite rituals to perform on any Full Moon and hope you will find as much beauty and benefit as I do with the flow.

Scientifically, Blue flames are considered to be โ€œcomplete combustionโ€
The perfect balance between oxygen and fuel.
They also transfer more energy and are considered the safest flame because the blue color indicates a clean burn, ie no poisonous carbon monoxide

The science of the blue flame translates beautifully to magic and spirituality.

โ€ขperfect protection
โ€ขcomplete release
โ€ขcleansing

Then there is the color itself. Blue for me imparts feelings of peace, spirituality, truth, serenity.

Generally I like to use the three day window of the Full Moon, day before, of and day after to work with rituals for gratitude and release. For me, those energies are heightened during the Full moon phase.

Supply list is below:

โ€ขEpsom Salts
โ€ขIsopropyl Alcohol
โ€ขFireproof container
โ€ขBay leaves or strips of paper
โ€ขWriting instrument
โ€ขMatches or lighter
โ€ขTongs or tweezers
โ€ข Large Tray

Place the fireproof container on a tray so you can move it quickly if necessary since it gets quite hot once the flame is ignited.

Place epsom salts in the bottom of the container and then barely cover the salt with rubbing alcohol. Note any alcohol used must be at least 70% or you wonโ€™t get the clean blue burn. The metal in Epsom salts is what creates the blue color.

Next write your message, intention, wish, gratitude notes on a bay leaf or strip of paper.

Meditate on these intentions for as long as youโ€™d like. Then hold the bay leaf or piece of paper with tongs or tweezers, light it and drop it into the container.

Be prepared to be dazzled!

The blue flame will continue to dance for some time before self extinguishing.

Drop me a note in the comments if you try it and let me know your thoughts ๐Ÿ’™

Bright Blessings.

Saining

Saining

The Gaelic practice of smoke cleansing. Scottish Gaelic word Saen, to โ€œsainโ€ is the Irish + Scottish meaning to charm, protect, activate, or recharge. It can be performed with water, smoke and fire.

And Fat Wood from a fallen pine makes the perfect smoke cleanse tool.

Pine is abundant in my region and I actually have three huge ones in my yard.

The fallen branches are known as fat wood or pitch and can be splintered and dried to use in place of Palo Santo. The pine must be fallen, not cut. Because a damaged branch, before it falls, has produced resin as a healing defense. It is this resin that creates the slow and fragrant burn.

These three guardians of my home are also abundant with offerings for other types of saining:

FIRE
โ€ขPine cones to tuck intentions into and toss on a bonfire.

WATER
โ€ขTiny seedlings to harvest and cold infuse in water overnight for floor washes.

CHARMS
โ€ขFallen needles woven into tiny wreaths

I treasure the gifts and wisdom my pines bestow ๐Ÿ’š

Morning Cleanse

Morning Smoke Cleanse

How perfectly aligned were these messages from Thursday?

Both the Fool from the #starseekerstarot and the Juniper smoke card from #sacredhagsoracle from @wolfwomanwitch were completely aligned in their messages of beginning anew.

And the act of taking a smoke cleanse bath in the morning was absolutely magickal. Starting my day off fresh and empowered.

Receive and Release

Receive and Release

This morning at meditation, I pulled the two cards, The Fool and the Vision Quest. The perfect balance representations of my release and receive ritual I had had planned on sharing today . I love spirit affirmations ๐Ÿ’œ

I was going to share another ritual mantra haiku that I have used in the past whenever I bring a new item into my home.

But based off the messages I received this morning, a new one was born.

The ritual of receive and release is so important for me to balance the flow of my space. Releasing an item in return, is an act of gratitude.

And no offering is too small.

The complete ritual will be in my upcoming publication Winter of 2022.

Prayer Circles

๐ŸงกPrayer Circles ๐Ÿค

I have repurposed that โ€œconceptโ€ in the creation and use of my own beads for different purposes in my daily practice.

Several years ago I crocheted a necklace for prayers to Brigid using black thread and beads I purchased in Italy years ago. An old locket holds an image of her inside.

The chakra beads are used to state my affirmations for each chakra each day.

The rosary was a thrift store find. I loved the center medallion of Mary and is a way for me to connect with my ancestors and the divine feminine. It was missing the cross which was fine by me because I worked in my own purchase (also from that trip to Italy) and I love the juxtaposition.

Do you use prayer beads in your practice?

Imbolc: Season of Fire and Ice

๐ŸคBlessed Imbolc ๐Ÿ’š

My husband shared a birthday with this Sabbat so for the past few years Iโ€™ve been making a โ€œfire and iceโ€ ring to celebrate both!

Imbolc and the Goddess Brigid are associated with Fire. But Brigid is also associated with wells and the season of Imbolc represents a thawing. So combing the two elements seemed a lovely way to celebrate the day

I make the ring overnight in the freezer using an empty plastic cookie tin and a plastic cup filled with beans.

Why the specificity of tools?

Because you want to unmold completely and quickly to get it into a rimmed container before it begins to melt

Do not use non tempered glass. It will either shatter during the freezing process or when you pull it out. You could also use empty tin cans but not sealed ones. Ask me how I know ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜Ž. Trial and error so you donโ€™t have to!

I fill the โ€œwellโ€ with Imbolc correspondences. This year Iโ€™ve used cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, lavendar blackberries and red rose petals.

I light the candle in the morning and let it burn all day.

Celebrating my spouse, the Sabbat and the Goddess.

And we will have custard for dessert. His favorite! Did I mention heโ€™s Irish? Talk about serendipity๐Ÿ’š

Iโ€™ve also included my prayer card for the final day of the 19 Flames for Brigid here

Candle Blessing

๐ŸงกSabbat Candle Blessing๐Ÿค

My Sabbat beeswax candles that I have prepared for the coming Wheel of the Year.

I will pray this blessing I wrote over them at sundown tonight and then store them in a box with my Brat Bhride that I set out right before sundown last night

I bolted out of bed this morning to bring it in before sunrise and I have to say holding that cool dew kissed cloth to my face felt so good. Iโ€™m in the midst of a little power struggle with Covid and fever and will definitely be reaching for this Brigid blessed muslin now and in the year to come.
