Poetry and Play

A little peak at my current daily mediation, poetry and play practice

I write each word from my curated monthly list on origami squares at the beginning of the month.

and then pick a fold that is reflective of the season. For me, April means tulips. ๐ŸŒท

After I pull the prompt and some Oracle cards, I compose a poem. And then usually create an image in Canva and share it to my author account @rachel.l.carlyle

I record the poem in my perpetual seasonal journal and then create the origami offering and place it on my ancestor altar.

In the evening the offerings go into a big crystal bowl for the year.

Not quite sure what Iโ€™ll do with them in a years time. Iโ€™m sure Spirit will inform โค๏ธ

Receive and Release

Receive and Release

This morning at meditation, I pulled the two cards, The Fool and the Vision Quest. The perfect balance representations of my release and receive ritual I had had planned on sharing today . I love spirit affirmations ๐Ÿ’œ

I was going to share another ritual mantra haiku that I have used in the past whenever I bring a new item into my home.

But based off the messages I received this morning, a new one was born.

The ritual of receive and release is so important for me to balance the flow of my space. Releasing an item in return, is an act of gratitude.

And no offering is too small.

The complete ritual will be in my upcoming publication Winter of 2022.

March Play Prompts

๐Ÿ’™March Prompts

Weโ€™re rolling into Ostara and the Spring Equinox and the prompt list Iโ€™ve created is filled with that fresh emergent energy.

You can do them in order starting with the first column and working your way down.

This month Iโ€™ve written them on spring colored squares of paper and put them all in a bowl and draw one at random each morning.

Iโ€™ll then fold them into little origami kites to adorn my seasonal tree.

February Prompts

๐Ÿ’™February Prompts

February means Imbolc and Brigid.
Which if you have been checking my posts the last few days, means you know itโ€™s my favorite Sabbat ๐Ÿ”ฅ

These daily prompts are a reflection of all the energy of this fire festival.

Iโ€™ve also included devotional cards for yesterday and todayโ€™s poems to accompany the lighting of the next three candles in my โ€œTending Brigidโ€™s Flameโ€ ritual

19 Flames for Brigid

๐Ÿงก Nineteen Flames for Brigid ๐Ÿค

In the lovely book by Lunaea Weatherstine โ€œTending Brigidโ€™s Flameโ€ she describes the ritual of 19 different priestesses guarding the eternal flame of the Goddesses holy site.
It is said on the 20th day, the Goddess Brigid herself would tend the flame and it would never extinguish.

She includes a beautiful poem, a stanza for each of the 19 days, to accompany the lighting of the candles. This book is a treasure and
I highly encourage you to purchase this incredible offering. Either paperback or kindle. I actually have both!

So as not to copy her work and also to honor the spirit of Brigid, patroness of poets, I have created my own haikus based off the authors theme for each candle.

The first three being:
Hearth and Home

I loved combing the days and my poems into a triptych for the 7 days leading up to Imbolc. And as serendipity would have it, by choosing this method, I begin the ritual today on my birthday!

And end on my husbandโ€™s birthday, which actually falls on Imbolc. He is Irish. Third generation. ๐Ÿ’š
Combined with my own Scots bloodlines, I have found this ritual to be profound and deeply nourishing.

A small altar in my living room has been set up with this mandala of cedar and pussy willow buds. New herbs and flowers associated with Imbolc will be added each day. Cinnamon, chamomile, bay, rosemary, are some of my planned offerings.

New moon water will be charged on this tray, carrying with it the energy of not only the new moon and Imbolc, but my sun sign as well.

Here are my poems if youโ€™d like to welcome Brigid tonight as well.

Flame 1

Bright welcome Brigid
Goddess of Light, my threshold
and heart are open

Flame 2

I have prepared my
table for your warm presence
Goddess of the hearth

Flame 3

My ancestors wait
Brigid of our legacies
and timeless blessings.

Ode to a friend

If Virgo were an animalโ€ฆ

Iโ€™m pretty sure they would be a squirrel.

Persistent, organized, well prepared and can multi task like nobodies business.

This is Stubby. He has half a tail. We donโ€™t know why. Maybe he escaped the clutches of one of our Hawks.

He has been around many, many years and visits us frequently.
Just sits on the porch railing and peers in at us through the kitchen window.

I think he likes to check in on us from time to time.

As a Virgo Rising , I feel like he is my personal special messenger.

But I feel like that about all of the creatures that co inhabit our space.

The deer, foxes, coyotes, hawks, owls, crows, cardinals, rabbits.

They all make me so happy when I see them wandering in our little Sanctuary. So in gratitude, Iโ€™m starting a series of poems to my friends who co inhabit this space with us.

Lesson from Stubby?

We are all pretty resilient and resourceful creatures, but life is hard. Check on your friends.

Itโ€™s all about the RE bebes!

Websterโ€™s definition

๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐Ÿ๐ข๐ฑ: ๐ซ๐ž-; ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐Ÿ๐ข๐ฑ: ๐ซ๐ž๐-

Iโ€™m using this prefix as inspiration to turn over a new leaf, literally and figuratively, on the daily.

And Iโ€™ve also got a fun new small daily ritual planned with these prompts.

Soโ€ฆwhatโ€™s your RE?โค๏ธ
